Utilizing a trained canine in detection and/or patrol capabilities is a proven force multiplier and one of the best deterrents that you can invest in for your security and comfort. Take for example in the picture. A K9 sweep around a prison resulted in contraband, including illegal drugs, were located hidden within the exterior grounds of the facility.

Unfortunately, in the private sector, canine detection and patrol work is often unregulated in regard to canine teams being recognized and certified by national third-party organizations for their effectiveness. This leads to companies hiring handlers with little, to a lot of times, zero experience dealing with real-world situations. Also, companies utilizing canines that aren't even trained in the discipline they are being utilized, and multiple handlers using the same dog they have never certified with. As a customer looking for a potential company with a canine detection/patrol capability, there are a few questions you should be asking EVERY company.
Drug and Bomb detection is serious business and therefore, should be putting out vetted and reliable K9 Teams that have the same demanding standards and policies of Law Enforcement and Military Teams. For example, the above picture are records from some of Rob's former canine partners. Make sure you are selecting a K9 service that has K9 Teams that are trained, then certified from a reliable third-party certification organization.
If you have a question about selecting a K9 provider or feel you have issues with your current provider, we will be glad to consult with you to ensure you are with a reliable partner. That is free of charge. If we can't provide the service at the time, we have a network of trusted K9 providers to ensure you are protected the right way. We care about the K9 Industry and only want real, proven K9 teams out on the front lines.
A lot of K9 Companies will conduct an "in-house" K9 certification showing you that they are a "certified" handler/team. However, that certification does not mean they have been vetted for reliability by a third-party organization or person. In essence, they are giving themselves a thumbs up without anyone else even observing their abilities or reliability. A true Certification should be conducted by a person/organization that has ZERO affiliation with that company or K9 facility that trained the dog and handler. Organizations like National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA), United States Police Canine Association (USPCA), North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), and The National Police Canine Association (NPCA) are just a couple examples of national third-party organizations.
There is nothing wrong with asking to see a K9 Team's Certification Papers or even their Training Certificate. In fact, we encourage you to ask. After all, it is your money you are investing, and you want to ensure you are getting what you are paying for. If they cannot produce these documents for you, that is telling you what you need to know.
Here at Agema Defense, our K9 Teams will ALWAYS have their training certificate and their Certification from a third-party organization with them along with other forms, validations and training records (We call them Probable Cause Folders). This gives you the peace of mind you are truly investing in qualified and reliable teams.
It is no secret that the canine field is growing at an exponential rate. This has led to a mass number of unqualified handlers, and unreliable canines as well. Working a drug or bomb dog is serious business and especially in the private world where you are alone with no backup, experience is of the upmost importance.
Here at Agema Defense, all of our handlers are either current and/or former Law Enforcement/Military canine handlers with at least 3 years of experience. All of our Law Enforcement handlers have real-world finds and made numerous court cases with their former canine partners. This gives them experience that is unmatched and unrivaled. Training alone can't provide you what the real world can provide. Quality canine services are not cheap because handlers with impeccable experience and properly selected canines are invaluable for protecting a venue.
Also, you will get the bio/profile of every handler we send to you, along with appropriate certifications of the K9 team, so you have peace of mind you are investing in the right partner.
At a bare minimum, K9 teams should be re-certifying annually (once a year). Companies should have no issue providing you with these annual K9 certifications for proof that the K9 team is reliable and actually gone through training and a certification together. Again, this is your money you are spending, and you don't want to fall victim to a trick that K9 companies pull which is using a handler that has never trained with that dog just to go fill a contract.
We will not be able to fulfill every request for a K9 service. We understand we may lose potential business because of this, but we utilize the one dog, one handler policy. This is done to ensure K9 teams are always together and able to build a better bond between them. It also keeps training times to match our in-house standards. Not to mention, this keeps our K9 teams certified without any conflicting issues.
